Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund – Maui

HWF’s mission is   To support conservation of Hawai`i’s native wildlife
through research, restoration and education

Hawai`i Wildlife Fund is a non-profit research and education organization dedicated to the conservation of Hawai`i’s native wildlife.  We collaborate with other scientists to obtain knowledge about threatened and endangered species in order to assist in their recovery.  We forge alliances and partnerships with community organizations and businesses to educate visitors and residents of Hawai`i about the marine ecosystem and impending threats.  We support various university and other student projects through research and education programs.  Hawai`i Wildlife Fund is specifically dedicated to:

  • Provide funding for Hawai`i wildlife conservation, research and education proposals from qualified scientists, university programs, and private organizations.

  • Provide a natural history education program that will supply educational materials and train individuals to be instructors to the general public on Hawai`i’s wildlife.

  • Perform research on Hawai`i’s wildlife and ecosystems to facilitate identification and resolution of problems threatening their existence.

  • Solicit funds to finance the above objectives from the Hawai`i community and other sources.

We engage and inspire our communities, keiki (kids) and volunteers in education, outreach, marine debris removal, conservation, research, and advocacy campaigns to keep Hawaiʻi alive and wild.

HWF also co-created and operates the Hawaiʻi Wildlife Discovery Center in Whalers Village, Kaʻanapali, Maui.  HWDC is an extraordinary multimedia, interactive venue with stunning murals, photos and videos featuring native marine wildlife, a “Kids Zone” learn & play area, and over 30 exhibits on conservation, marine debris, whaling era, and Hawaiian cultural values.

HWDC highlights the work of Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund in protecting native flora and fauna via fieldwork, education, marine debris removal, conservation, research, and advocacy campaigns.

Your visit will take about 60 – 90 minutes.
All ages are welcome to come and enjoy the Discovery Center!
