Marine Wildlife & Conservation Volunteer Opportunity
Location: West Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi
Duration: Minimum 6 month commitment preferred
Join a passionate team dedicated to marine conservation, research, and ethical wildlife interactions. As a volunteer, you’ll support field and office-based efforts to protect and understand the marine ecosystems off Oʻahu’s leeward coast.
Responsibilities may include:
Assisting on boat-based wildlife tours and research charters
Cataloging and submitting wildlife identification photos (e.g., dolphins, whales, sea turtles)
Processing marine debris data and ghost net encounter reports
Maintaining wildlife sighting logs and behavioral notes
Assisting with educational outreach and social media content
Supporting citizen science efforts and research initiatives
Basic boat prep and cleanup
Ideal candidates:
Are detail-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable on boats
Have a background or interest in marine biology, environmental science, or related fields
Are comfortable using spreadsheets, databases, or photo software (training provided)
Possess strong communication skills and a collaborative attitude
Additional Information:
On-the-water experience is not required but is a plus
Volunteer hours may vary with ocean conditions and project needs
Housing may be available for qualified candidates
This is a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to ongoing conservation work while experiencing Hawaiʻi’s marine life firsthand.
